Daughter of Robert Michael Owen and Elizabeth Jones. .

Born in Llanrug, Caernarvonshire in 1843, the sixth year of the reign of Queen Victoria.  She has 6 direct descendants in the family.

At the time of the 1881 census Ellen was widowed with four children, and was sharing the house with her sister and three brothers as head of the family.
